Going deeper with people and communities to have a greater impact on the big picture.

Becoming Burnout Resistant: Coaching for People in Helping Professions

The reality we are facing in our work in communities right now is stark and urgent. Many of us in helping professions (nonprofits, government, education, health care, philanthropy, and more) are experiencing burnout and leaving our roles at alarming rates.

We each know the experience:

  • We care so deeply about our work, and yet we find it tough to slow down because the needs of the world never seem to slow down.

  • As we work on the front lines to address society's biggest challenges—ensuring health care access, fighting inequality, climate change, and that our children can grow and thrive—we often neglect our own well being, falling into cycles of exhaustion and compassion fatigue.

But here’s the critical truth we must face: While we work to address these inequities, we also must do the work to heal ourselves to keep our passion and energy so we can be impactful for the long haul. We can’t keep trying to address our burnout with a long weekend here and there or waiting until our bodies demand it by getting sick.

We need to build our burnout resistance so we can stop the cycle from continuing.

Through our work together you will:

  • Strengthen your nervous system: Burnout often includes a nervous system that is overactive, making it difficult to see what needs to change and what matters. We will explore how your body currently needs support and what practices work best for you to self-regulate and co-regulate with others.

  • Identify and implement boundaries: Constantly pushing past our limits can put you on a path to burnout quickly. We will explore where you might need to slow down, put boundaries in place for yourself and others, and practice actually putting the boundaries in place (the hardest part!)

  • Reconnect to your values and “big why”: As professional “carers,” our emotional and spiritual connections to our work are vital for us to feel like our work matters. We will address issues connected to compassion fatigue by defining and/or reconnecting with your values and why you started your work in the first place.

Testimonials

"There are many coaches in the world today.  However, I haven’t found a coach (and I’ve researched) like Hanna.  Her gentle presence, pacing, deep thought, compassion, and care come into focus with every interaction. She can navigate tough topics with grace and space to deepen my understanding of myself and my limiting beliefs. She provides the safest space for her clients to work through their own human experience, and she is clearly invested in doing her own inner work, which I believe is critical to being an effective coach. I could recommend Hanna to anyone."

Rachel E.

"The 1:1 coaching sessions were really helpful for me to talk through specific issues, and Hanna did an excellent job holding the space, asking really thought-provoking questions, connecting the dots across different issues, and just being a friendly and thoughtful partner to listen and support me. And when I got down on myself and tried to move out of that space too quickly, Hanna gently helped me to see that I need to find ways to be more comfortable with being in the death/rebirth phase of the grief cycle."

Katie D.P.

"I appreciated the opportunity to think through boundaries, values, and my 'big why.' The progression of sessions and topics was perfect and made so much sense. I found the many activities that were broken down into individual work time mixed with group discussions very helpful."
